Ryoko Toyama, Watercolor and Acrylic Artist

Ryoko Toyama's artist statement:

Mediums and techniques I apply to my paintings continue to evolve while the purpose remains the same, that is, creation of emotional reality. Inspiration comes from visible objects or concepts, animated or lifeless. My creative process begins with the end in mind. However, my work often takes its own course, producing the unexpected in a magical transition.

Biography

I was introduced to the fascinating world of visual arts in my childhood in Japan through private setting and public education. In1962 I came to the U.S. After studying library science and linguistic, I have worked for major research libraries across the country, including Library of Congress, University of Oregon Library, Columbia University Libraries, and Rutgers University Libraries. Throughout my librarian career, I have deepened my appreciation for human heritage, not bound by time or place. My husband and I moved to Sequim, WA in 2004. My paintings are in private collections and public space in the U.S. and abroad.
